Q

What is the purpose of the thumb pin on the aft short shaft?

Why are they not installed on the fwd short shaft?

A

The pin is free to spin in order to confirm that the bonded fitting has not separated from the shaft as it will rotate and jam up. (witness pin)
The fwd shaft is riveted not bonded because of the heat of area in the engine compartment.

Q

What is the sequence of events for rigging the tail rotor control system?

A

Start at the front and progress onto the control surface.

  1. Neutralize pedals
  2. Next the Tee bell-crank and fwd pulley connected to the pedal torque tubes
  3. Set the cable position on fwd pulley and aft drum assembly and then tension cables
  4. Ensure drum is in neutral position and set blade angles with pitch links.
