Project 4 Flashcards
Why is it important to do a thorough inspection of an exhaust muff heater?
Exhaust gases contains CARBON MONOXIDE which is poisonous.
Cracks on the exhaust muff could direct carbon monoxide in the cabin.
Additional carbon monoxide safe-guards?
Detector can be installed in the cabin area to provide early detection and warning.
Where are the cracks most likely occur?
along welds, in radiator and formed areas
What dangers are posed by loose baffling inside the muffler?
baffling pieces can block the exit of the muffler, CAUSING THE engine to run fucking bad or QUIT.
Signs indicate that an exhaust system component is eroded or has been overheated?
Swelling, distortion, discoloration of metal all indicates OVERHEATING
you can detect erosion inside by squeezing or tapping with SOFT FACE HAMMER
What color of stain does an exhaust leak leave behind?
It can appear yellow, orange, white or black streaking, depending on the engine conditions
What does AD CF90-03R2 Part I specify?
visual inspection for all damages like cracks on the welds. So that no exhaust gas will enter in the cabin
How long will it take for different exhaust system components to cool down down to a safe handling temperature after engine shutdown?
Depends on the mass and location of the component, airflow around it and the ambient temperature. Always proceed with caution!!
What could result from an incorrectly torqued exhaust clamp or a fractured or corroded exhaust manifold or tailpipe?
Hi temperature exhaust gasses escaping the exhaust system are hot enough to ignite combustibles or to melt through aluminums and weaken and erode steels
