Trust
A group of businesses working together to not compete
Monopoly
A company or trust that controls an industry entirely (e.g. if there was only one phone company, streaming service, shoe company)
Trust Busting
Breaking up trusts and monopolies to allow smaller companies to compete
16th Amendment
Allows the federal government (not just the state) to tax people’s income (e.g. take part of your paycheck)
17th Amendment
U.S. Senators have to be elected directly by the people instead of by state governments
18th Amendment
Made alcohol illegal (selling or making), started Prohibition
19th Amendment
Gave women suffrage
21st Amendment
Made alcohol legal again (ended Prohibition)
Pure Food and Drug Act
Banned harmful and misrepresented food and drugs (medicine), regulated the manufacture and sale of drugs (medicine)
Sherman Antitrust Act
Prohibited businesses from working together in ways that impacted interstate or international trade
Clayton Antitrust Act
Made the Sherman Antitrust Act stronger by preventing businesses from merging or using prices to hurt smaller companies
