A

Pros: people earn more $ (2x standard wage), so standard of living goes up- immigrants can buy better houses, employees can buy Ford cars

Cons: restricted employees’ freedom- monitored personal lives of employees

In what ways did the Progressives attempt to deal with their 4 main issues?

A

Cities are crowded and dirty: subways, skyscrapers, sewer systems, garbage disposal, fire safety codes, gov. regulation on business, housing, services, campaigns for parks.

Workplace is harsh and unfair: fought for min. wage laws, regulations on child labor

Divided America threatens democracy: settlement houses, Americanization programs, citizenship education, promotion of segregation and anti-lynching

Corrupt politics: political cartoons

They used photography, interviews, writing, cartoons, etc.
