Program Development Flashcards
Environmental assessment
A preliminary study review of a proposed project and the influence would have on the environment. Often conducted to determine the need for more detailed environmental impact analysis
A study required by US federal law for projects involving federal funds to determine impacts that would be expected in the natural and human environment and the alternative courses of action, including no action
Environmental impact statement
Set back
The critical distance between a structure and an edge
Context sensitive design response to which element of the site?
Nature, culture, design places for people
Ideal timeframe for performance evaluation data collection
Every one to three years
Why should A performance evaluation be an ongoing collection rather than a one time observation
To capture how performance changes over time
Environmental determinism
From McHarg - allowing the analysis of a biophysical condition to drive the land use allocation decisions
Suitability analysis
The process of determining the fitness, or the appropriateness, of a given tract of land for a specific use
What factors have an impact on site inventory and analysis?
The project program, existing site conditions, permit requirements and the cost to perform the inventory and analysis
What is a visual preference survey
Participants are shown a variety of designs which they then comment on and rank in order of preference
