Prognosis Flashcards
1
Q
what is class A
A
- good -> minimal risk of being lost
- 80-100% bone support -> easy to maintain
- 80-100% sound coronal tissue
- can complete endo tx
- tooth in correct position
2
Q
what is class B
A
- fair-> low risk of being lost in forseen future
- 50-80% bone support -> well maintained/any furcations well maintained and cleaned
- 50-80% sound tooth structure
- tooth not in position but can be adjusted
- predictable endo retreatment/difficult endo tx
3
Q
what is class C
A
- questionable -> medium risk of being lost
- 30-50% bone support -> difficult to maintain cleaning
- 30-50% sound tooth structure
- acute or chronic failing endo tx/difficult to predict retx
- not in position and requires procedures to function
4
Q
what is class D
A
- comprimised - > high risk of being lost/immediate extraction
- less than 30% bone support -> cannot be well maintained/active perio lesion
- less than 30% tooth structure
- failing endo - no predictability of retx
- tooth severely out of place -> tilted after tx/position impacts health of adj structures
5
Q
what is class X
A
- non-salvageable -> extraction/unrestorable
- less than 30% bone support -> cannot be cleaned/maintained without infection
- no remaining supra crown structure
- supererupted/tilted -> cannot be restored to function
6
Q
what are the pros of prognosis
A
- peer-reviewed
- comprehensive systematic approach
- practical classification system to prognosis
- txp and pt communication
7
Q
what are the cons of prognosis
A
subjective clinical tx
8
Q
what are the criteria for evaluating prognosis
A
- peri condition and bone support
- restorability
- endo condition
- occlusal plane and tooth position
- anatomic irregularities
- iatrogenic compromising factors
9
Q
define prognosis
A
predicition of the future course of the disease and treatment outcome
