Profunda Femoris Flashcards
Origin, course & end
From postero-lateral aspect of femoral A, 4cm below inguinal ligament
It passes between femoral vessels & pectineus, then between adductor longus & brevis, then between adductor longus & magnus
Ends below middle of medial side thigh by piercing adductor magnus as 4th perforating A
Lateral circumflex femoral A
Runs lat. between femoral N. branches then deep to sartorius & rectus femoris, giving 3 anastomotic branches:
1-Ascending branch:
Shares in anastomosis around Asis
2-Transverse branch:
Shares in cruciate anastomosis
3-Descending branch:
Shares in anastomosis around knee
Medial circumflex femoral A
Passes backwards to appear on thigh back, giving 3 branches:
1- acetabular branch:
To hip joint
2-Ascending branch:
Shares in trochanteric & cruciate anastomosis
3-Transverse branch:
Shares in cruciate anastomosis
Perforating A
4 arteries perforating adductor magnus to reach thigh back & anastomose with:
1-Acetabular branch: To hip joint
One another
Inferior gluteal & circumflex femoral
artery in cruciate anastomosis
Anastomosis & clinical points related to femoral A:
Muscular branches of popliteal A
Cruciate anastomosis
Between internal iliac & profunda femoris A
At thigh back below greater trochanter; looking like cross
1-Transverse limb:
Between transverse branches of medial & lateral circumflex femoral A
2-Vertical limb:
Between ascending branch of medial
circumflex femoral & descending branch of inferior gluteal A above & ascending branch of 1st perforating A below
Anastomosis around asis
between external & internal iliac A
1-Ascending branch of lat. circumflex femoral A (profunda femoris A)
2-Superficial circumflex iliac A (femoral A)
3-Deep circumflex iliac A (external iliac A)
4-Superior gluteal A (internal iliac A)
Trochanteric anastomosis
Between internal iliac & profunda femoris A
1-Ascending branch of med. circumflex femoral A (profunda femoris A)
2-Superior gluteal A (internal iliac A)
3-Inferior gluteal A (internal iliac A)
