Back sacrum & coccyx
Back sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion
Superficial 3/4: Posterior border ilio-tibial tract
Deep 1/4: Floor of gluteal tuberosity
N supply
Inferior gluteal n
Action
Makes ilio-tibial tight, so keeps knee extended in standing and walking
Extension, abduction & lateral rotation of thigh
Gluteus medius Origin
Gluteal surface ilium between posterior & anterior gluteal lines
Insertion
lateral surface of greater trochanter
N supply
Superior gluteal n
Action
Abduction and med. rotation of thigh
Prevents pelvis sagging when opposite leg is off ground
Gluteus minimus Origin
Gluteal surface ilium between anterior & inferior gluteal lines
Insertion
Anterior Surface of greater trochanter
