Proficiency and conduct Marks
Indicate how proficiently Marines performing in their primary duties. Evaluate conduct during.
In addition to observance of the letter of the law and regulations a Marines conduct includes
Bearing, attitude, interests, reliability, courtesy, cooperation, obedience, and adaptability, influence on others, participation in unit activities
Occasions for pros and cons
Active-duty special work, recommended see Marine Corps order P 1400.32, completion of annual training, annual, semiannual, service cool completion, change of primary duty, TAD complete, to temporary additional duty, last day prior to the clearing deserter, The clear deserter (first day of UA), reduction, promotion to Cpl. or Sergeant, discharge, temporary disability retired list, completion of initial skill training, completion of recruit training, transfer, assignment to active-duty reserves, assignment to involuntary active-duty reserve, released from active duty, release from extended active-duty or active reserve.
Reporting occasions
The individual records administration manual also known as IRAM, identify 16 occasions that warrant the issuance of pros and cons. Each occasion has specific rules.
Active-duty versus reservists duty marks
Active duty receives semi annual marks on January 31 and July 31. Reservists on active duty receive annual marks on December 31

Conduct marking traits
Military bearing, influence on others, obedience, cooperation, attitude/enthusiasm, courtesy, moral fitness, physical fitness, reliability, adaptability, interests, participation in the unit activities not related to the unit mission
Standards and rating scale
Conduct Marks are assigned using a scale from 0 to 5. Aligned with standard of conduct.
Unacceptable. 0-1.9
The habitual offender, declaration of desertion, two or more punitive reductions in grade, conviction by general special or more than one summary court-martial, ordered to confinement pursuant to sentence of court-martial
Unsatisfactory. 2.0-2.9
No special court-martial, not more than one summary court-martial, not more than 2 non-judicial punishments, punitive reduction in grade
Below average. 3.0-3.9
No court-martial, no more than one NJP, failure to make satisfactory progress with weight or military appearance, conduct not sufficient to merit an honorable discharge
Average. 4.0-4.4
No offenses, no unfavorable impressions as to attitude interest cooperation obedience after affects of intemperance courtesy and consideration in observance of regulations
Excellent. 4.5-4.8
No offenses. Positive favorable impressions of the qualities listed in paragraph 4005.6a of the IRAM. DEMONSTRATES RELIABILITY, GOOD INFLUENCE, SOBRIETY, OBEDIENCE, AND INDUSTRY
Outstanding. 4.9-5.0
No offenses. Exhibits an outstanding degree of qualities in paragraph 4005.6a of the IRAM. OBSERVE SPIRIT AS WELL AS, LETTER OF ORDERS AND REGULATION AND DEMONSTRATES POSITIVE EFFECT ON OTHERS BY EXAMPLE AND PERSUASION
