What are patient factors relevant for determing eligiability for day stay surgery?

Answer 1

• ASA 1 or 2, or medically stable ASA 3 or 4
• Safe co-morbidities i.e obesity BMI < 35, OSA (not severe, minimal requirement for post op opioids)

Question 2

What are surgical factors relevant for determing eligiability for day stay surgery?

Answer 2

• minimal post op risk of: haemorrhage, airway compromise, uncontrollable pain

Question 3

What are criteria to be discharged home with from day stay surgery?

Answer 3

• Normal vitals and GCS
• Normal mobility
• Pain and nausea controlled
• Tolerating oral fluids
• Passed TOV (if had regional i.e spinal)
• Responsible adult in a suitable vehicle (i.e not public transport)
