What is fitness to practise
To have the skills, knowledge and character to practise a profession safely
Why must we have F.T.P
To protect the public
Ensure trust and respect for the profession
Promote good practise and to support the profession
What is meant by “impaired” F.T.P
Means that there is concerns about their ability to practise safely and effectively
What is the 4 stage process to test F.T.P
- Are the factual allegations proved on the balance of probability
- Do the facts indicate misconduct, poor clinical practise or health problems?
- If so, as a matter of professional judgement, is the restraints FTP impaired?
- If so what sanction is appropriate? (i.e. striking of the register)
