Registered paramedics can administer and prescribe medicines on there own initiative for the immediate, necessary treatment of the sick or injured without prescription

Define Misuse Of Drugs Act 1971
- Covers the class of drug
- Don’t need to be NHS service to obtain or administer POMs
Define what the Class of drugs mean
- Under the MODA 1971 drugs are placed into 3 classes A,B,C
- This relates to the harm that they cause society when they are misused
Some class A drugs are
- Heroin
- Cocaine
- Methadone
- Ecstasy
- Lsd
- Magic Mushrooms
Some class B drugs are
- Amphetamines
- Barbiturates
- Codeine
- Cannabis
Some class c drugs are
- Benzodiazepines
- Ketamine
- Anabolic steroids
Schedule of drug definition
- a classification system that categorises the drug for there potential for misuse.
- Schedule 1 are drugs not approved for medical use
- Schedule 2-5 require a written prescription for use

The most potent and harmful drugs that can be used clinically
Schedule 3 define
Lighter controls on storage and administration
Schedule 4 define
Medium controls on storage and administration but lesser control on prescription
Schedule 5 define
Can be brought over the counter
