Azelaic Acid
Anti-inflammatory, skin lightener. Great for Rosacea. Larger molecule than Glycolic but part of the AHA’s.
Arbutin
Arbutin is a glycoside; a glycosylated hydroquinone extracted from the bearberry plant in the genus Arctostaphylos. It inhibits tyrosinase and thus prevents the formation of melanin. Arbutin is therefore used as a skin-lightening agent.
Hydroquinone
Inhibits Tyosinase, Skin lightener. Supresses Melanocyte cells. Not safe though.
Kojic Acid
Antibacterial, Antifungal. Skin lightener. Stops oxidation in foods/fruits. Used in cosmetics to preserve.
L-Ascorbic Acid
Vitamin C - Skin Lightener and brightener. Antioxidant. Serums typically 20-30%
Lactic Acid
Humectic. Anti-inflammatory. Great for aged skin. Larger molecule than Glycolic so doesn’t penetrate as much. Milk based.
Licorice Extract
Anti inflammatory and skin whitener.
Mulberry
Skin lightener and anti inflammatory
Retinoids
Vitamin A - Cell turnover, collagen builder. Retin A - tretinoin - Accutane (internal).
