planning describes what and how the project will be accomplished
continuous conversion system
a high volume of homogeneous product is produced
intermittent conversion system
when a variety of custom products are produced one at a time or small groupings of different products are produced in batches
Finite loading
is a common scheduling method that takes into account details, priority flow and loading in one single system
forward scheduling
is a method of loading the schedule based on the start date of the project
backward scheduling
is a method of scheduling used in continuous conversion shops that produce homogenous products. this method of scheduling starts with the date of completion for the job
Critical path method
the critical path method was developed in the 1950s for managing plant maintenance, the critical path method is not used alone, but in conjunction with a bar chart
