What is job production
Producing each product individually
E.G. Taylor suits Porsche car manufacturing
Advantages and disadvantages job production
Products are normally High quality
Meeting the individual needs of the customers
The workers are satisfied
Takes a lot of time
Very costly
Need a specific skill set
What is batch production

Advantages disadvantages of batch production
Cost is reduced because goods aren’t being stored
Don’t need a specific skill set done with machinery
Meet the need of more customers
If you get one wrong the howl batch is wrong
Time taken to switch the machinery around
Less choice because could have to wait a couple of weeks to get a specific colour
Have to hold stocks which mean you have to pay for storage
What is flow production
Production line that is made continuously (mass production)
E.G. frozen pizza’s steel work
Advantages and disadvantages of flow production
Cheaper because of economy scale
Lots can be made quickly
Uses machinery
Setup cost is expensive
Have to do constant quality control checks
Bit of a boring job
Technology
Can be controlled by programming machines
Computers are helping with automation and is affecting jobs on the high street E.G. banks
Robotics
Using robots to do the repetitive tasks so dont have to pay people to do the jobs
