Product Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
How are carbohydrates made from the Calvin cycle? (3)
A
- Fructose phosphate is made and can be converted to glucose, and combined with glucose to make sucrose for transportation around the plant.
- A- glucose may be converted to starch for storage
- B-glucose may be used for cellulose for cell walls
2
Q
How can fats be made from the Calvin cycle?
A
Acetyl coenzyme A can be synthesised by GP and made Into fatty acids. TP can be converted into glycerol, and under condensation this makes triglycerides.
3
Q
How can proteins be made from the Calvin cycle?
A
GP can be converted into amino acids for protein synthesis. The amino group is derived from NH4+ ions made from nitrate ions taken in by roots.
