Light - Independent Stage Flashcards
What is the first stage of the light independent stage?
CO2 combines with ribulose biphosphate and is catalysed by rubisco to make an unstable 6C compound
What is the second stage of the light independent stage?
The unstable 6C compound immediately splits into two molecules of glycerate phosphate (GP)
What is the third stage of the light independent stage?
GP is reduced to triose phosphate (TP) by reduced NADP and ATP.
What is the fourth stage of the light independent stage?
NADP is reformed. Some of the TP is converted to glucose phosphate, which is made into starch by condensation. Most of the TP regenerates to ribulose phosphate, and is then made to ribulose biphosphate by ATP to restart the cycle.
