Q

Name at least 5 ways of producing electricity.

A

Geothermal, Hydroelectricity, Nuclear, Biomass, Hydrogen fuel, Fossil fuels, Solar Power. (All there are also more ways to generate electricity, but these are just a few. Most common ways to generate electricity)

Q

How does Hydroelectricity work?

A

A dam opens, allowing water to flow in, hence turning a turbine, creating energy which s transformed into electricity by a generator. Then taken to other places.

Q

How does Geothermal work?

A

Geothermal electricity works by pumping hot water up to the surface, where it turns into steam which spins a turbine, which eventually is cooled down and pushed back down into the Earth.

Q

How does Solar electricity work?

A

Solar electricity can be collected through photovoltaic (PV) panels or mirrors concentrating solar radiation.

Solar Electricity works when photons from light displace an electron from its bond. Then, the mobilized electron is taken through metal fingers at the top and run through a circuit. Then, it comes back and fits itself into the bond.

Q

How does Hydrogen Fuel work?

A

We extract hydrogen from other means to have their chemical powers used to create electricity in a hydrogen fuel cell.

Q

How does Nuclear Electricity work?

A

Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms – a process called fission. This generates heat to produce steam, which is used by a turbine generator to generate electricity. Because nuclear power plants do not burn fuel, they do not produce greenhouse gas emissions. But the waste is not processable and highly dangerous.
