Q

What happens if precipitation is heavy (local scale)

A

The amount of water reaching the ground increases and magnitude of stores increases

Q

Effect of urbanisation (local scale)

A

Impermeable surfaces reduce infiltration, water will flow quickly through drainage pipes to nearby river channels

Q

What are the 5 key terms of soil water budget

A
  1. Soil moisture surplus - the soil water store is full= surplus of soil moisture for play use and runoff into streams (precipitation > potential evaporation(PE))
  2. Soil moisture use- plants Rey on stored water which is gradually used up ( PE> precipitation)
  3. Soil moisture deficiency- plants must have adaptions to survive for long periods
  4. Soil moisture recharge- soil water starts to be recharged (precipitation> PE)
  5. Field capacity has been reached- soil water store is full
