A

-sand becomes trapped by an obstacle(drift wood, seaweed)
-embryo dunes first develop which are suitable for colonisation by grasses (marram grass)help bind the sand together
-upward growth of embryo dunes called foredunes are initially yellow no organic matter
-as veg cover increases humus is added to the sand turn grey
- dune eventually becomes fixed more veg colonise
