Procedures For Neurological Disorders Flashcards
Positron emission tomography
(PET) scan
Uses radioactive chemicals that collect in specific areas of the brain. Chemicals allows images of that area. Checks blood flow brain tumors. Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
Lumbar puncture
To examine CSF. Needle is used to remove CSF from subarachnoid space. Below 3rd lumbar vertebra of spinal cord
Magnetic resonance imaging. (MRI)
Allows visulation of the brain and spinal cord from many angles. Uses magnets to get images Useful in detecting tumors. Bleeding. Or other abnormality
Cerebral angiography
Uses contrast material that can be seen in blood vessels of the brain. Detects aneurysm - abnormal blood filled bulges in the blood vessels
Computerized tomography (CT)scan
Produces images that provides more info than a standard X-ray. Detects tumor and abnormal structure
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Detects electrical activity in the brain
X-ray
Useful in detecting skull or vertebra fractures
Chorea alageranted
Sudden jerk in body
