Procedures and Emergency Procedures Flashcards
1
Q
What is a spin?
A
An aggravated, fully stalled, spiralling descent.
It happens when both wings are stalled, but one wing is more stalled than the other.
It can be caused by:
- Uncoordinated Stall (e.g., excessive rudder input during a stall).
- Base-to-Final Turn (Skidding Turn to Final) – One of the most common causes in GA aircraft.
- Improper Stall Recovery (not reducing angle of attack or improper rudder use).
2
Q
What types of situations do unintentional spins occur? (5)
A
- engine failure on takeoff (stretching the glide)
- cross-control turn from base to final
- engine failure on approach
- go-around with excessive nose-up trim
- go-around with too fast flap retraction causing aircraft to sink

Q
Spin recovery procedure
A
PARE
Power off
Ailerons neutral
Rudder opposite the spin
Elevator forward briskly to break stall
Neutralize rudder
Back-elevator to raise the nose
