Suppress diastolic repolarization
Reduces automaticity of myocardial pacemakers
Slows intraventricular conduction

Indications for procainamide
A
VFib or pulseless VTach that reoccurs after periods of non VFib rhythms

Contraindications of procainamide
A
Complete or 1st degree block CHF Torsades de pointes Pt with lupus or myasthenia gravis Pt taking quinidine or disopyramide

Side Effects of procainamide
A
Hypotension
Widening of QRS complex
Heart Block

Adult Dose of procainamide
A
20mg/min up to 17mg/kg (loading dose)
1-4 mg/ml in pt with normal renal function
12mg loading dose and1mg/min if pt is in renal failure.
