The Manichee beliefs that the world was divided between forces of good and evil
How did Augustine describe evil?
A ‘privatio boni’ (absence of good)
What did he think about variety?
It is part of the rich goodness of God’s creation, as this means things will naturally have more ability and strength than others

God created them, and they are perfect spiritual beings, varied in character

Some received less grace than others, so were less able to worship God without falling into sin
