probability distribution class notes Flashcards
probability dist function is discrete or continuous
discrete
probability density function is discrete or continuous
continuous
discrete vs continuous
Discrete data represents exact figures you can count, such as the numbers of students in a class. In contrast, continuous data often includes measurable values representing a range of information, such as the extent of the difference between the shortest and tallest student in a class.
cumulative density function
values below a certain threshold
what does cumulative density function tell us
tell us compliments so can learn more about above threshold
normal distribution
-appears as bell curve
-perfect symmetric, no skewness
-mean, median and mode are all equal and at the same point
what do you do when you are trying to find area between two z scores
find areas left to both z then subtract smaller number from larger one
z scores give
relative location of every point out of entire distribution
if z is positive number then
above the mean
if z = 0 then
= to the mean
empirical rule for normal dist
-68% 1 SD from mean
-95% 2 steps
-99% 3 steps
