PRIORITY TO STUDY: MEMORIZATION Flashcards
What is the Post Tribulation Rapture Theory and Why do we not believe it? (Cite references - Important)
They believe that the church will pass through the tribulation and that the catching up of the redeemed will be immediately followed by their return with Christ.
- The tribulation period is not a Church period, but is the final week of Daniel’s vision regarding God’s dealing with Israel.
Daniel 9:24 (ESV)
24 “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place. - The tribulation period is called by Jeremiah “Jacob’s Trouble”
Jeremiah 30:4–7 (ESV)
4 These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah:
5 “Thus says the LORD: We have heard a cry of panic, of terror, and no peace.
6 Ask now, and see, can a man bear a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor? Why has every face turned pale?
7 Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it. - Nowhere in the book of Revelation, after Revelation 4 is the Church mentioned specifically, until Revelation 19, where the Church is seen in Heaven as the Bride of Christ.
- The Church has suffered and will suffer many trials and tribulations but not the Great Day of His Wrath.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 (ESV) — 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, - The Lord promised the faithful that they will be kept from that hour of wrath.
Revelation 3:10 (ESV) — 10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
What is Mid-Tribulation Rapture theory and why we do not believe it? (Cite references - Important)
They believe that the church will pass through the first half of the period and that the rapture will take place in the middle of it.
- The Mid-tribulation removes the any moment expectation of Christ’s Coming.
- The tribulation period is not a Church period, but is the final week of Daniel’s vision regarding God’s dealing with Israel. (Dan. 9:24)
a. God’s wrath is also poured out in the first half of the tribulation period (Rev. 6:12-17). - The Two Witnesses in Revelation 11: if the church were on the earth, why would God assign Jewish prophets to the mission of witnessing to the nations? Until the end of the Church age, it is the Church’s mission to witness to all nations.
What is Partial Rapture theory and why we do not believe it? (Cite references - Important)
They teach that the unspiritual part of the church will pass through the tribulation, but the mature and Spirit-filled will be caught up before the tribulation.
- If all who have died in Christ will be resurrected, certainly all who are alive “in Christ” will be raptured. 1 Thess. 4:16
1 Thessalonians 4:16 (ESV) — 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. - Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 15:51, all who are in Christ will be changed at His coming. 1 Corinthians 15:51 (ESV) — 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
- Our standing with God is based on the Righteousness of Christ, not our righteousness which are “filthy rags” Isa. 64:6
Isaiah 64:6 (ESV) — 6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
What rapture theory do we believe? Justify with scripture
Pre-tribulation Theory (What we believe)
* Pretribulation holds that the church, the body of Christ, in its entirety, will, by resurrection and translation, be removed from the earth before any part of the seventieth week of Daniel begins.
* Pretribulation rapturism rests essentially on one major premise – the literal method of interpretation of the Scriptures.

What is Personal Eschatology
One of the two areas of eschatology that relates to the individual person from the time of physical death
until he receives his resurrection body.
The topic can be considered under two headings.
Physical Death and the Intermediate State.
(3) Kinds of death in the Scriptures with Scriptures
Physical death- This is the separation of the soul from the body; the termination of physical life.
Spiritual death- separation from God, both in this world and in the world to come. the spiritual state in which
one finds oneself before salvation. It is spoken of as being “dead: in trespasses and sins (Eph 2:1,5). A person is
considered spiritually dead before he comes alive in Christ at salvation.
Eternal death- the eternal judgment which comes alive in death upon those who have never been made
spiritually alive. It is the eternal judgment of God which comes upon those who have never, in their lifetime, “passed out of death into life” (John 5:24). This also called the second death, the lake of fire (Rev 20:14).
(5) False Views about Intermediate State and why we don’t believe
- Purgatory- soul which are completely pure at death are allowed to enter heaven, to enter into the presence of God. The souls which are not perfectly pure and are in need of cleansing go to a place of purging called purgatory to “purge” the guilt of venial sins. Primarily supported by non-canonical book Maccabees.
WHY WE DO NOT BELIEVE:
i. No solid scriptural support
ii. Violates the teaching of the scriptures in the sufficiency of the blood of Christ to cleanse sin and of salvation by grace through faith.
- Soul-sleeping- after death, the soul lapses into a state of sleep or unconscious repose.
WHY WE DO NOT BELIEVE:
i. Sleep is used as a metaphor taken from the similarity in appearance between a dead body and a sleeping person.
ii. Believers who die enjoy a conscious communication with Jesus
- Spiritism -
* Spiritism teaches that the living may communicate with the dead and the dead with the living, usually through the agency of a “medium.”
* They are produced by deceptive manipulations, as has often been proved.
WHY WE DO NOT BELIEVE:
* They are produced by “lying spirits”: 1 Kings 22:22-23 1 Tim. 4:1
- Annihilationism- relates primarily to the unsaved. According to this, there is no conscious existence at all for the wicked after death or simple the unsaved ceases to exist at his time of death.
WHY WE DO NOT BELIEVE
i. We are immortal beings
ii. Death and destruction is punishment and the scriptures are clear that the unsaved will continue to exist forever (Ecc 12:7)
- Conditional immortality- the soul is not created or born with immortality, but receives it upon confession of faith in Jesus. The one who dies without Christ simply ceases to exist because he has not received the gift of immortality.
WHY WE DO NOT BELIEVE:
They confuse immortality with eternal life. Eternal life received at salvation is more than eternal existence, it is rather a quality of life in the presence of Christ. God is eternal but man also received derived immortality at creation.
(3) What the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is – with Scriptures
- The Second Coming of Christ is a literal coming or return.
a. Since the coming is a second one, it will be as literal as the First Coming.
b. The Old Testament has more references to Christ’s Second Coming than to His first; prophecies of His First Coming. - The Lord’s Coming will be a personal return. Jn. 14:2-3
- From the above quoted reference, it is clear that the Lord’s Coming will be a visible, bodily coming. Acts 1:11
(6) Signs of His Coming with Scriptures
- Progress in transportation and science Dan. 12:4
- Perilous times 2 Tim. 3:1-7
a. When the depravity that Paul describes characterizes a whole society, such a condition signals the approach of the end of this age. - The regathering of Israel in Palestine. Isa. 11:11-16
a. On May 14th, 1948,
the regathered Jews declared a portion of Palestine to be the independent state of Israel.
b. This in itself did not fulfill specifically the prophecies concerning Israel’s regathering, for the regathering has been in unbelief; but after nearly two thousand years of exclusion from their land, Israel’s existence as a state may very well set the stage for the final act. - Rise of communist Russia Eze. 38:2-3
a. Rosh is a proper name that is a reference to Russia.
b. Meshech is Moscow
c. Tubal is Tobolsk - The rise of communist China Rev. 16:12
a. China was the “kings of the east” mentioned in Revelations.
b. The River Euphrates was considered the boundary between East and West.
c. Many prophetic scholars see the rise of modern China as an inferential “sign” of the latter days. - Armaments and modern war potential

What is the Rapture of the Church?
It is an any-moment occurence
- The first event for which the believer waits is the Blessed Hope Tit. 2:13 1 Thess. 4:15-18
- The Greek word translated “falling away” may also have the meaning departure. 2 Thess. 2:1-3; 2 Cor. 12:8
- Without doubt, the New Testament, especially Paul’s writings, is very clear about a “rapture” of the living believers at Christ’s Coming.
