Printers Flashcards
Speed
Speed is usually measured in pages per minute (ppm). Laser printers are generally faster then inkjet printer is. Remember, Princess speed are given for printing eight page of text adding images really slows a printer down and indicates well slowdown far more then laser printers will
Resolution
The resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch) and is specified in a similar fashion to a monitor (horizontal and vertical) – 1200×600 DPI. The higher the DPI the better the quality of the printed out a bit. This is really most important when printing pictures. If all you want to do is print a standard documents and not high quality photos and most printers will satisfy your requirements
Monthly duty cycle
This is an indication of the maximum numbers of pages that can be printed in the month without the printer failing or breaking down. It is obviously not a hard and fast specification but gives an indication of what the manufacturer thinks in terms of how robust the printer is
Number of colors
Colour printers work by combining cane, magenta and yellow inks. Cheap Princes only have the three colours and combine them to create black slightly better princess have a black ink cartridge – this improve speed and print quality. I and in chains princes of some more colours to Prove the quality of the photo prints.
Paper options
Most printers print on a four size papers, envelope and they balls. More expensive Princes allow you to print on both sides of the paper automatically (called duplex printing.). Take note of the maths paper your paper tray can hold.
Very important in the printing process is the choice of good quality paper – especially when printing photos on an Inkjet printer. Printing a photo on standard paper will not look nearly as good as printing it on coated glossy inkjet paper
Connections
Virtually every principle next to a USB port. Some princess have media card slots and additional parts to connect portable media devices and print directly to the printer from these devices.
Summery
Generally speaking, laser printers are
More reliable (they don’t have nozzles that can clock or Inc that can dry out) Easier to maintain then ink jet printer is Better for black and white and general colour – but in projects are much better for creating photo quality prints Generally cheaper to run especially for higher volumes of printing
