Reversibility Definition
If you stop training, or intensity is too low, then training effects are reversed. It can also be known and de-training.
Adaptation Definition
This occurs during the recovery period after training is complete. Adaptation is how the body increases its ability to cope with the training being done.
Progressive Overload Definition
Increasing your training workload gradually. This can be done by increasing the frequency, intensity or time of training.
Rest and Recovery Definition
This is essential to allow the body to repair and adapt, and for the renewal of body tissues.
Variation Definition
It is important to maintain interest in your training programme, this helps an individual stick to their training schedule. Vary your training programme to avoid boredom and maintain enjoyment.
Individual Differences and Needs Definition
The programme should be designed to meet your training goals, needs, ability, level of fitness, skill level and exercise likes/dislikes.
Specificity Definition
Training should be specific to your preferred sport, activity or developing physical/skill-related fitness goals.
