Components of Fitness Flashcards
What are the Physical Components of Fitness?
Flexibility Aerobic Endurance Body Composition Speed Muscular Strength Muscular Endurance
What are the Skill related Components of Fitness
Co-ordination Reaction Time Agility Balance Power
Flexibility Defintion
The range of movement around a joint
Aerobic Endurance Definition
The ability of the cardiorespiratory system to work efficiently, supplying nutrients and oxygen to working muscles during sustained physical activity.
Body Composition Definition
The relative ratio of fat mass and fat free mass in the body
Speed Definition
Distance divided by time taken.
Measured in metres per second (m/s)
What are the 3 speed types?
Accelerative speed – sprints up to 30 metres
Pure speed – sprints up to 60 metres
Speed endurance – sprints with short rest period in-between
Muscular Strength Definition
The maximum force that a muscle or muscle groups can produce.
This is measured in kilograms (kg) or Newtons (N)
Muscular Endurance Defintion
The ability of the muscular system to work efficiently, in which a muscle can repeatedly contract over a period of time against a light to moderate fixed resistance load
Co-ordination Definition
The ability of the muscular system to work efficiently, in which a muscle can repeatedly contract over a period of time against a light to moderate fixed resistance load
Reaction Time Definition
The time taken to respond to a stimulus
Agility Definition
The ability to change direction without losing balance or time.
Balance Definition
The ability to maintain your centre of mass over a base of support
What are the two different types of Balance?
Static – no movement
Dynamic – with movement
Power Definition
The work done in a unit of time
Measured in kilogram-metres per second (kgm/s)
