Principles Of Training Flashcards

1
Q

What do we mean by individual means?

A

When planning training sessions, the needs of the individual athlete comes first.Using someone else’s programme will not work because every athlete has different needs-and a different starting point-and the training should focus on these.

Q

What does specificity mean?

A

Specificity means matching training to the requirements of an activity/sport. Every sport has its own specialist needs; divers and long-distance runners obviously train in different ways.

Q

What do we mean by progressive overload?

A

Progressive overload: gradually increasing the amount of overload to improve fitness.
Remember overload doesn’t mean training too hard or too much.

Q

What is the FITT principle.

A
The FITT principle enables you to plan an exercise programme to get the most out of it as safely as possible.
F-Frequency (how often)
I-Intensity (how hard)
T-Time (how long)
T-Type (what method)

Q

What is overtraining?

A

Overtraining occurs when you train beyond your body’s ability to recover. Athletes often exercise longer and harder so that they can improve. However, without adequate rest and recovery, this can backfire and actually make your performance worse.

Q

What is reversibility?

A

Reversibility means gradually losing fitness instead of progressing or remaining at the current level.

Q

When can reversibility occur?

A

This can occur when a person is ill or injured or if you do not train for a long time. Some people keep their fitness longer than others; this may be related to the length of training or how serious their injury is.
