Principles of Training Flashcards
Progressive Overload
Body adapts to consistent demands over time.
It is important to increase the intensity of the activity to achieve improvements.
Specificity
In order to have appropriate improvements, training must be specific to the desired goal.
Muscle specificity
Movement specificity
metabolic specificity
Reversibility
When training ceases, gains made in aerobic and anaerobic training will be lost over time.
Detraining effect.
Variety
The use of various types of physical activities.
Can be valuable as a means of maintaining motivation and generating enthusiasm.
Training Threshold
To achieve improvements in aerobic fitness, training must be of sufficient intensity to have a training effect. Aerobic training zone (60-65% max HR)
Anaerobic (80-85% max HR)
Warm up/cool down
Warm up is essential to prepare the body physically and mentally.
Cool down helps remove lactic acid more quickly and enhance recovery.
