Define specificity

A

Making your training match your sport

eg long distance para cyclist does continuous training on a bike to increase cardiovascular fitness and cycling technique but they don’t do swimming

A

Increasing the amount of training done gradually according to individuals needs and to prevent injury

eg rugby player wanting to increase muscular strength starts with 10kg biceps curls then increases weight to 12kg after 2 weeks

A

Making the body work harder than normal over a period of time to improve a specific component of fitness

eg long distance runner usually trains at 70% max HR trains at 75%
