principles of training Flashcards
what is the acronym for principles of training?
SPORR
s = specificity:
ensure the training carried out is relevant for chosen activity
consider whether the same energy system/muscle fibre type/skills/movements are the same
intensity and duration of training should be similar to activity
po = progressive overload:
performer gradually trains harder throughout training programme due to fitness improvement
don’t overload too soon or injury chance will increase
r = reversibility:
if training stops then adaptations that occurred as a result of training will deteriorate
r = recovery
rest days are needed to allow the body to recover from training
research suggests that the 3:1 ratio should be used - 3 hard training days and 1 rest day
what are the fitt principles?
f = frequency
i = intensity
t = time
t - type
they help improve performance
what is frequency?
in order to improve the amount of training needs to increase
what is intensity?
in order to improve intensity of training needs to improve
what is time?
the time training needs to increase to improve performance
what is type?
using different forms of exercise maintains motivation
the type of training chosen needs to be relevant to chosen activity
