Addresses the broader determinants of health
Behavioural factors, such as reducing tobacco smoking and eating a healthy diet, are an important part of improving health and wellbeing, but these factors are often influenced by other, broader determinants.
- looks at WHY someone behaves the way they do
acts to Reduce social inequities
To achieve this, the sociocultural factors that contribute to inequities in health status must be addressed. Many individuals and population groups are heavily influenced by sociocultural and environmental factors
- HOW a program works to overcome the social issues
- don’t use this and addresses broader determinants
Empowers individuals and communities
Means people can participate in decision-making about their health and well-being. Individuals are more likely to participate in healthy behaviours if they have a sense of power and control over their situation. Empowering people with health knowledge and skills means they are more able to make positive changes to their health and well-being.
- look for people getting skills and knowledge in some way
acts to enable Access to healthcare
Healthcare has a significant influence on health and wellbeing and is a contributing factor in the health status experienced by most people. There are many sociocultural and environmental factors that can impact access to healthcare
- only use if there’s an actual link to healthcare, making healthcare affordable and accessible
interSectoral collaboration
Having groups from many sectors, such as government, health and the private sector, working together to achieve a common goal
- occurring whenever there’s 2 or mote groups involved
- don’t use if worth 3 marks
