Principles Of Research Definitions Flashcards
1
Q
Define the term probability value
A
- the numerical value that gives indication of the likelihood that results are due to a real difference/ correlation
- aren’t due to chance factors
2
Q
Define sampling frame
A
- a list to specify the population of interest/ pts who are available
3
Q
Aim of research
A
Broad statement of the purpose of the research - not as specific as the hypothesis
4
Q
Why would 0.5 be better than 0.01
A
- 0.05 is less stringent whereas using 0.01 would be less stringent.
- Using 0.05 suggests there’s 5% chance of our results being due to chance whereas using 0.01 would lower this to a 1% chance which may be too strict
5
Q
Confounding variables
A
Variables
6
Q
Split half reliability
A
where a test is split in two and the scores for each half of the test is compared with one another. If consistent, internal reliability is high; if not, it is low and individual questions would need to be re-ordered or redesigned to improve reliability.
