Investigation 2 - Mobile Use Flashcards
State the IV and DV that you used in your research
IV- gender (male and female based on identification)
DV- code for no use, some use, frequent use
Explain the ethical considerations
Privacy - pts may feel judged (rude/antisocial), therefore we remain at an appropriate distance
Confidentiality- no one will be named, described or identifiable
Deception- pts don’t know the true aim of the experiment, however will be given debrief at the end
Right to withdraw- pts can’t withdraw if their name/ identity hasn’t been recorded
Informed consent- retrospective consent or make tutors aware of potential study
Protection from harm- follow up help/support.
Identify and justify the inferential statistics test used when analysing data in the observation.
The inferential statistics that we would use is chi-squared. This is because its nominal data which means the number of participants can go into the 3 categories we have which were: no use, brief use and frequent use. It also means it will be a independent measures because we were looking for the difference of use between male and females
Explain whether or not this led to your results being significant
This led to our results being significant
State the operationalised alternative hypothesis for your observation
Non directional- the researcher is limited and conflicted because
There will be a difference in frequency of reliable phone use
State the null hypothesis for your observation
Describe the observational sampling technique you used in your research
The observational sampling technique we used was opportunity sampling. Opportunity sampling
