Principles of Hydraulics Flashcards
Why are hydraulic systems needed?
They are needed when the loads or energy required to operate an aircraft become too great for the pilots to comfortable fly the aircraft
Transport category aircraft will use hydraulics to operate?
Power flight controls, landing gear system, Nose wheel steering, etc.
How do hydraulics work?
By using a liquid force acting on a piston or driving a hydraulic motor to produce mechanical motion
Work (formula)
Work=Force x Distance Moved
Power (formula)
Power=Force x Distance/Time
(rate of doing work)
1HP=how many watts?
746 watts
Pressure (formula)
Pressure=Density x Height
Pascals Law
Pressure exerted by fluid in a closed (pressurized) container is equal on all sides of that container
Area of a rectangle
A=Length x Width
Area of a square
Area=Side x Side
Area of a triangle
Area=(1/2) Base x Height
Area of a circle
A = πr2
Volume of a rectangle
V=Length x Width x Height
Volume of a cylinder
V = πr2h
Volume of a sphere
V = (4/3)πr3
