Two types of air pumps
A
Dry pump: uses carbon vanes so is self lubricating by the vanes
Wet pump: Pumped into the engine lubrication system for lubrication

Gate check valve
A
Prevents possible damage to the instruments by engine backfire that would reverse the flow of air and oil from the pump
