Summarize the primary survey -
Scene safety
Response - Try talking to the casualty or gently tapping on the shoulders
Breathing - Check to see if the casualty is breathing
Help - Delegate bystanders to call the necessary services that are required
Circulation - Check for a pulse.
If the casualty is not responsive and is not breathing normally and no defnite pulse can be felt - Start CPR.
Summarize the secondary survey:
Complete a survey from head toe, it must include:
- The head
- The neck
- The thorax
- The abdomen
- The pelvis
- The lower extremities
- The upper extremities
Positioning:
- Elevate the lower extremities, except with:
- Elevate the upper body of a patient with the following conditions:
- Initiate recovery positions(like sleep positions) if:
- Flat on back
- Spinal injuries
- Fractures of the thigh
- certain heart conditions
- Heart attack
- Chest injuries
- The patient is unconscious
- Spinal injuries
- Seriously injured patients
- Pelvic fractures
