Principles and Practice of Surgical Technology Flashcards
Dressing with a transparent polyurethane film with an adhesive backing where little drainage is anticipated (surgiceal)
One-Layer dressing
Dressing that consist of an inner (contact) layer, intermediate (absorbent) layer and outer (secure) layer for wounds were drainage is anticipated
Three-Layer dressing
Non adherent and doesn’t allow the passage of any thing directly through it.
Nonpermeable (occlusive)
Allows for the passage of fluids and air through it and creates a mechanical surface. Used often for wound debridement
Semi-Permeable (Semi-Occlusive)
A non adherent dressing That draws fluid out and allows the passage of fluid and air
Permeable (non-Occlusive)
Straight, nonretaining catheters
Robinson, Coude (curved end) Catheters
Self-retaining, indwelling catheters
Foley Catheters (2-way (5cc) 3-way (30cc))
Suprapubic Catheters that are inserted into the bladder through an abdominal opening
Maecot (winged tip) Pezzer (mushroom)
Balloon tipped catheter that can pass through vein, arteries and ducts to remove a blockage
Fogarty Catheter
Passage of fluids from a high to low pressure (T-tube, penrose, gastrostomy tube)
Passive Drain
Passage of fluids by creating negative pressure (Hemovac, Jackson-Pratt, Stryer)
Active Drain
