What are the 7 Roles and Responsibilities
1) Looking after your own personal safety
2) Looking after the safety of your work colleagues, passengers and by-standers
3) Providing basic patient assessment and care
4) Supporting the casualty’s legal rights, privacy and human dignity
5) Liaising with medical experts
6) Keeping appropriate records and reports
7) Checking the appropriate medical equipment and kits
What are the 5 principals of First Aid?
1) Assess the situation
2) Do no further harm
3) Stabilise airway, breathing and circulation
4) Give treatment within the scope of your skill level
5) Refer to medical help
What is the medical action plan?
1st Crew Member:
On finding a medical situation start to deal with it and call for assistance either verbally or by pressing the call bell three times
2nd Crew Member:
Get the assistance of a third crew member and inform them of the nature/severity and location of the incident
Obtain appropriate medical equipment including the AED, wash hands, put on gloves and return to the scene to assist
3rd Crew Member:
Inform the Commander of the incident as quickly as possible
Report all events clearly to the pilots including the signs and symptoms of the casualty and what treatment other crew members are giving. In cases of Basic Life Support ensure that the pilots are informed if the AED is being used and to request that an AED is available on landing for use off aircraft
If necessary make a PA for a medical professional
Any Other Crew Member:
Help and support casualty’s travelling companions and gather as much information for the Passenger Medical Report Form as possible from companions or personal effects
Help out wherever possible
