What are the two sub-orders of primates and how do they differ?
Strepsirrhini - nose turns inwards, bicornuate uterus
Haplorrhini - simple nose, simplex uterus
What is the taxanomic ‘tree’ of the order primates?
Split into two suborders - Strepsirrhini and Haplorrhini.
Strepsirrhini is split into one infraorder - Lemuriformes, which is split into the two superfamilies Lemurs and Lorises.
Haplorrhini is split into two infraorders - Tarsiiformes (1 family, Tarsiers) and Simiiformes.
Simiiformes are split into two parvorders - Platyrrhini (New World monkeys) and Catarrhini.
Catarrhini is split into two families - Cercopithecoidea (Old World monkeys) and Hominoidea (apes, including humans).
