Q

How is airway assessed?

A

ask patient a question and if they answer then airway is patent

A

14/16G

18
Q

how to you assess circulation?

A

pale, sweaty, active bleeding
BP, HR, JVP, heart sounds, cardiac monitor
consciousness

19
Q

state some sites of haemorrhage ?

A

chest
abdo
pelvis (use pelvic binder)
floor

20
Q

what is the management of a haemodynamic comprised patient ?

A

give 2L of warmed Hartmanns stat

21
Q

what is the one thing to never forget when using ABCDE ?

A

ALWAYS REASSESS

22
Q

what three things can be measured to assess response to fluids?

A

lactate, BP, urine output

23
Q

what things should be assessed for disability ?

A

consciousness - AVPU, GCS
pupil response
plasma glucose!!!
(never forget glucose)

24
Q

what should be assessed for exposure ?

A

completely undress the patient
perform leg role and PR
look for bleeding
prevent hypothermia

25
Q

what should be done in secondary survey?

A

head to toe examination

26
Q

what investigations should be done for secondary survey ?

A
C spine - lat and peg
CXR
Pelvis XR
FAST scan
CT - when pt is stable
27
Q

what is a peg x ray?

A

The odontoid or ‘peg’ projection is an AP projection of C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) with mouth open

28
Q

what does FAST scan stand for?

A

focussed assessment with sonography in trauma

29
Q

what system is used to clear the C spine?

A

NEXUS criteria

30
Q

what does NEXUS criteria consist of ?

A
fully alert and orientated
no head injury
no drugs or alcohol
no neck pain
no abnormal neurology
no distracting injuries
