Plugged pilosebaceous duct, exfoliative.
Formed from sebum and keratin
Blackhead or whitehead
Cyst
Semisolid or fluid filled encapsulated mass extending deep into the dermis
Macule
Flat, pigmented, circumscribed
Aka freckle < 0.5cm
Freckle, rubella
Nodule
Firm, raised deeper than papule extends into the dermal layer
Aka swollen lymph nodes, lipoma, skin cancer (usually cancer)
0.5-2cm

Firm, palpable, inflammatory, raised may be same color of skin or pigmented Mole/wart Up to 0.5cm Acne, lichen planus Mole/wart

Circumscribed soli, elevate
Elevation above the skin occupies larger surface in comparison with height
Psoriasis

Raised, circumscribed contains purulent material making it yellow-white color Boils, acne, impetigo < 1cm, but size variable Acne pustule, impetigo Furuncle
Tumor
Elevated solid, extends into the dermal and subcutaneous layers

Raised, circumscribed fluid filled Blister, chicken pox, herpes, shingles, second degree burn <0.5 cm Chicken pox, herpes simplex Contains serous fluid

Raised, firm with intense localized skin edema Color varies from pale pink to red Urticaria - hives, insect bite Varies in size ITCHY
