Irrigation is the artificial application of water to land to assist in the production of crops
Why must some farmers use irrigation?
In some countries the rainfall amounts are low and uncertain, so to sustainably grow crops farmers must use irrigation
How do farmers use irrigation?
Farmers use irrigation by applying water to crops using canals, piping and spraying techniques

Irrigation helps to feed the world’s increasing population

The Nile flooded every year for a few weeks, when the flooding stopped farmers would grow crops on the damp soil as the water contained sediments to help grow the crops

The Aswan dam began construction in the 1960’s, to control the flooding
