These people have functional authority. They’re not in charge of everything, but for their specific area (like safety or IT), they can make decisions that affect the whole company.
Key differences:
Line authority involves direct orders and clear responsibility.
Functional authority is limited to specific areas but can cross department lines.
Staff authority is about giving expert advice without making final decisions.
