Previous lectures Flashcards
1
Q
What are osteons and what are its job?
A
Osten are longitudinal units within compact bone
—> maintaining osteocytes by providing nutrients
2
Q
What are lammelle?
A
tubes of ECM with collagen fibres aligned to resist forces • Lamellae form a series of cylinders running longitudinally down shaft= forming the Osteon
3
Q
What are canalicui?
A
channels for
osteocytes through ECM
4
Q
What is the structure of cancellous bone?
A
Trabeculae Ø Struts of lamella bone • Marrow fills the cavities • Osteocytes housed in lacuna on surfaces of trabeculae
5
Q
COmponant of Fibrocartilage?
A
Can adapt its shape to stresses on joint during movements
6
Q
What are ligaments and what are there function?
A
Connect bone to bone ØFunction = restrict movement ØMovement is restricted ‘away from itself ‘
7
Q
What are tendons and what are there function?
A
Attach muscle to bone
- -> Facilties and controls movement
- -> Contraction
8
Q
What is range of movement determined by?
A
Bone-end shape
• Ligament location and
length
• Body surface contact
