long-term smokers with 30-pack years of smoking should be screened ANNUALLY via CHEST CT starting at AGE 55
lipid screening
men above age 35, women above age 45
diabetes screening
screening with fasting blood glucose levels (2 measurements over 125 or HbA1c greater than 6.5%) is done when pt has HTN or hyperlipidemia
indications for pneumococcal vaccine and revaccination. how is it given?
everyone above age 65, alcoholics, and smokers. revaccination after 5 years is only needed if pt is immunocompromised or the first injection was prior to age 65. 13 polyvalent vaccine first, then the 23 polyvalent vaccine in 6-12 months
indications for VZV vaccine
all children and pts over 60
tetanus vaccine
Td (toxoid) every 10 years, one Tdap as one of the boosters, tetanus immune globulin in those never vaccinated. dirty wound = booster after 5 years, clean wound = booster after 10 years
indications for meningococcal vaccine
at age 11 visit and adults with asplenia, terminal complement deficiency, military recruits, residents of college dormitories, travelers to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj (pilgrimmage)
prostate screening
digital rectal exam ANNUALLY starting at AGE 40
breast cancer screening
mammography every 2 years starting at AGE 50, stop at age 75
