Vitamin B12 deficiency
Photophobia, blurred vision, burning and itching of eyes, poor growth, cheilosis

Vitamin B6 deficiency
Megaloblastic anemia, glossitis, pharyngeal ulcers, impaired immunity
Folate deficiency
Newborn w/ microcephaly with sloping forehead, cutis aplasia on the scalp, microphthalmia, and cleft lip & palate; echo shows ASD, VSD, & dextrocardia.
Trisomy 13 (Patau)
Large mouth w/ tongue protrusion, hypopigmentation w/ blond hair and pale blue eyes, and unprovoked bursts of laughter
Angelman syndrome
6-week-old boy was small for his birth weight and had intrauterine growth retardation. He is microcephalic, has a rounded face, hypertelorism, and epicanthal folds. His cry is high-pitched.
Cri du chat
A 3-day-old infant who was found at birth to have anal atresia also has vertebral defects, a VSD, tracheoesophageal fistula, absent left kidney, and shortened arms.
VATER
1 wk old with transient rash that has splotchy areas of erythema with central clear pustule
Erythema toxicum
Black neonate w/ 1- to 2-mm pustules –> hyperpigmented lesion upon rupture of the pustule.
Pustular melanosis
Small, sharply edged, yellow-orange, slightly elevated, hairless lesions that occur most commonly on the head and neck of infants.
Sebaceous nevi
Flat vascular lesions in nuchal or occipital appear more prominent during crying.
Salmon patches (nevus simplex or flameus)
Fine, yellowish white, 1- to 2-mm cysts containing keratinized material scattered over the face and gingivae of the neonate, if on palate, called Epstein pearls
Milia
Greasy, scaly, and erythematous and in smaller children involves the face, neck, axilla, and diaper area.
Seborrheic dermatits
Small, firm, white, cold patches of skin in exposed areas; tx rewarm areas before they become numb.
Frostnip
