e.g. in 2014 the Leonardo Dicaprio foundation donated $2million
how many members?
over 3.5 million
what are their methods?
-direct action e.g. climbing to the top of the shard in protests against shell’s plans to drill into the arctic
-patrolling the seas
-producing reports to influence government and the public
-create solutions to environmental problems
greenpeace’s successes:
-in 2017 gov. announced plans for a lower carbon economy
-its campaigns against microbeads succeeded because the gov. banned them in 2017
-campaigns against shell were effective as in 2015 they cancelled plans to drill into the arctic
greenpeace’s failures:
-failed to prevent drilling off the coast of greenland by cairn gas
-some of its methods like disruptive direct action can alienate the gov. and the public
-criticised for campaign against genetically modified organisms in 2016 as may said it was anti-science
